Abstract
Dans Pays sans chapeau et dans L’énigme du retour, le retour physique du narrateur-protagoniste en Haïti est associé à la mort, donc au retour ultime du corps à la terre. Dans le premier, Vieux Os retourne au pays natal après vingt ans d’absence et découvre un peuple de zombis dont il se veut le reporter. Dans le deuxième, il s’agit d’un retour effectué trente-trois ans après le départ initial. Si dans L’énigme du retour l’objectif principal du narrateur semble être de rapatrier l’âme de son père dont le corps repose à New York, c’est aussi l’occasion de faire le point sur sa propre existence, laquelle ressemble étrangement à celle du père. Cette étude des deux romans portera sur les rapports du narrateur exilé à son pays natal et sur le rôle salutaire d’une écriture consacrée à la question primordiale qui hante inévitablement chaque nouvelle génération d’Haïtiens : rester ou partir.
