Abstract

Cet article propose une étude statistique de l’évolution quantitative connue par le genre manifestaire de 1886 à 2009, dans l’objectif de situer ses « âges d’or » et de vérifier ainsi les idées répandues à son sujet. Dans cette étude, qui s’appuie sur des informations tirées de Manart, une base de données recensant les manifestes artistiques et littéraires du XXesiècle, deux corpus sont mis en comparaison, constitués à partir de critères de sélection différents (critère définitoire et critère de réception). Croisant les approches et les données, une étude contrastive portant sur le manifeste nous semble être la seule qui puisse présenter des résultats solides et un tant soit peu objectifs.
