Cet article présente des données polliniques pour un nouveau sondage de 9 mètres de profondeur réalisé dans un des marais de la région de Sandynallah (11°26'N, 76°38'E, alt. 2200 m), situé dans le massif des Nilgiri. Ces montagnes du Sud-Ouest de l'Inde sont soumises à un régime de mousson d'été. Quatorze datations au radiocarbone ont été obtenues sur neuf échantillons de sédiment brut par la méthode conventionnelle. Les datations de la partie profonde du sondage s'étalent entre 27 000 et 35 000 ans BP. Elles indiquent clairement que le début du remplissage date d'avant le dernier maximum glaciaire. L'analyse pollinique a porté sur 65 échantillons. Des comptage élevés ont permis d'identifier 95 taxons polliniques parmi lesquels 55 sont du pollen d'arbres et d'arbustes dont certains spécifiquement forestiers. Sur l'ensemble des taxons, le pollen de Gramineae, Cyperaceae et d'autres plantes marécageuses représente plus de 80 % du total compté. La période glaciaire est caractérisée par la prédominance de Gramineae en C4 associées à Artemisia et aux Apiaceae. Une phase à Michelia (Magnoliaceae), un arbre semi-décidu des forêts d'altitude, a été attribuée à l'Holocène supérieur autour de 3800 ans BP. La présence régulière, mais en faible quantité, d'autres taxons forestiers comme Olea, Ilex, Glochidion et Rapanea sur l'ensemble de la séquence montre que la mosaïque forêt-savane a existé dans ces régions bien avant que I'Homme n'intervienne sur la forêt.
