Abstract
Résumé Il y a trois manifestations de l’infini chez Descartes : l’infinité de Dieu, l’infinitude de ma volonté et l’indéfinité du monde physique et mathématique. Cet article est consacré à l’infinitude de ma volonté, c’est-à-dire à la contribution de la philosophie pratique à l’idée de l’infini. Dans la première partie, on examine comment l’homme, partant d’une déception à l’égard du fini, aspire naturellement vers l’infini, cette volonté d’infini étant si intime à l’idée de l’infini qu’elle signifie de fait volonté infinie. La deuxième partie montre ensuite comment ma volonté est infinie, notamment parce qu’elle en porte les signes paradoxaux (positivité et incompréhensibilité). Enfin, dans une troisième partie, l’infinitude de ma volonté apparaît comme la marque que Dieu m’a fait à son image, ce qui implique de ne pas confondre l’infinité de Dieu et l’infinitude de ma volonté.
