Quelle est la vision de la diversité culturelle proposée par les manuels scolaires d’histoire? Telle est la question que se posent les auteures. Elles utilisent comme sources les manuels en usage en quatrième secondaire dans les écoles québécoises durant les années 1980 et 1990. L’étude s’appuie sur le concept de « complexe discursif » pour soutenir que le sens ne se présente pas comme une donnée stable et constante, mais qu’il est plutôt soumis au changement et qu’il évolue à l’intérieur de réseaux discursifs. Les auteures concluent que le récit scolaire historique fait une place de choix à la diversité culturelle sans pourtant parvenir à inclure les autochtones et les minorités culturelles dans la trame narrative.
