Abstract
Depuis une quinzaine d’années, les grandes ONG internationales utilisent des recruteurs de donateurs sur plusieurs continents. À l’œuvre dans la rue, voire en porte-à-porte, ils sont formés et rémunérés, le plus souvent par des agences auprès desquelles les ONG sous-traitent le programme. Pour ces recruteurs, cette activité est souvent vécue à la fois comme une forme d’engagement militant qui repose sur des valeurs, et comme un travail rémunéré soumis à des objectifs quantifiés. De nombreuses tensions sont à l’œuvre dans l’articulation entre ces deux dimensions, qu’elles portent sur la légitimité des techniques commerciales de sollicitation, ou sur la structuration de collectifs où s’entremêlent rapports amicaux, militants et professionnels. Surtout, la difficulté tient à la fois à la capacité à incarner l’ONG et la cause, tout en maintenant une nécessaire distance au rôle. Ce travail exige donc un travail émotionnel complexe, individuel et collectif, analysé ici grâce à une enquête ethnographique menée en France et au Canada parmi ces recruteurs.
