Après le maître-ouvrage de J. Garnier, on lira ce livre avec intérêt en gardant à l’esprit la critique qu’au début de son étude l’historien fait des sources qui ont servi à retracer l’histoire de la bataille. En effet, il s’agit ici du récit, non pas d’un simple soldat, mais d’un officier supérieur autrichien, le baron Karl von Stutterheim, qui y joua un rôle non négligeable et dont l’œuvre est reproduite en fac-simile.
