Cet article se propose a) de mieux comprendre de manière générale l’économie historiquement changeante entre les univers indissociables de la « folie mentale » et de la « folie sociale » qui se traduit à chaque époque par la définition d’un certain nombre de figures concrètes de la « folie », en mettant l’accent sur quelques jalons historiques et quelques retournements institutionnels majeurs, notamment au Québec et b) d’examiner l’exemple concret d’un dispositif contemporain dit de « psychiatrie-justice » mis en œuvre au Québec pour repérer et gérer les figures contemporaines de ce que nous appellerons la « folie civile », notamment à partir de l’analyse des données d’une des recherches empiriques récentes menées par l’auteur.
