Abstract
Dans son livre Theatre and Globalization, Patrick Lonergan développe la thèse selon laquelle la mondialisation est en train de changer la configuration des échanges économiques et culturels qui mène notamment à « une déterritorialisation du pouvoir ». D’ailleurs, pour lui, ceci vaut pour l’autorité économique comme pour l’autorité culturelle. Le pouvoir passerait ainsi d’un lieu physique précis d’exercice du pouvoir à un espace conceptuel plutôt lié à la domination des marques (Lonergan 21). Dans cet espace culturel mondialisé et reconfiguré, où domine le branding, il est légitime de se demander quelle place occupe le théâtre québécois, par quelles stratégies et grâce à quels outils une partie de celui-ci parvient à franchir les frontières et si son positionnement sur l’échiquier mondial de la culture a quelque chose à nous apprendre sur la manière dont les joueurs d’un milieu théâtral relativement restreint peuvent espérer tirer leur épingle du jeu dans la nouvelle dynamique théâtrale internationale. D’où le titre de Théâtre québécois sans frontières dont nous avons coiffé ce dossier, qui examine l’insertion de ses pratiques dans un cadre plus grand que celui de la nation.
