Abstract
Esta pesquisa explora diferenças nos níveis de motivação referente à carreira de estudantes segundo sexo, idade, ano do ensino médio e tipo de escola. Uma amostra de 848 estudantes do ensino médio de ambos os sexos, de idades entre 14 e 18 anos, da rede pública e privada do Rio Grande do Sul respondeu ao Questionário de Motivação Referente à Carreira (QMRC-44). Resultados demonstraram não haver diferenças significativas nas médias conforme as variáveis controladas em estudo. Entretanto, os índices de dispersão em torno das médias tornam-se significativamente menores à medida que avança o ano do ensino médio, podendo-se interpretar que, para a variável ano do ensino médio, as respostas tornam-se mais consistentes, estáveis e precisas no terceiro ano do ensino médio. Estudos longitudinais e transeccionais, incluindo uma extensão maior de idades e de anos de estudo seriam indicados para melhor explorar a presença de diferenças significativas entre as médias das variáveis
