Abstract
Abstract The Philippines is among the world's major labor‐sending countries, with Japan a leading destination for overseas Filipinos. In 2010, an estimated 9,452,984 Filipinos lived overseas, of whom 4,423,680 were permanent, 4,324,388 temporary, and 704,916 irregular (undocumented) migrants. In the same year, the top 10 countries of destination of Filipino migrants were, in descending order, the United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada, UAE, Australia, Malaysia, Japan, UK, Hong Kong, and Kuwait (Commission on Filipinos Overseas 2011a).
