Abstract
À jongler avec les mérites et les ratés de la théorie de Marx et de ses adeptes, Schumpeter semble vouloir s’imposer en tant qu’arbitre unique et impartial du marxisme. Bien qu’il reconnaisse plusieurs mérites à la conception économique de Marx, Schumpeter soulève de multiples limites à l’analyse des marxistes orthodoxes qui ne font que corroborer sa prise de position critique du marxisme. Une lecture des critiques et des réponses que Schumpeter a adressées au marxisme permet de révéler les points communs et les divergences entre les deux auteurs. Chez Schumpeter comme chez Marx, le capitalisme est un mode passager de la production sociale. Schumpeter se fixe comme objectif de combler la lacune des marxistes qui n’ont pas su identifier les vraies raisons du dépérissement du capitalisme. Il lui fallait relever le défi de critiquer certains adeptes de Marx sans pour autant s’en prendre trop au fondateur du marxisme auquel il vouait une admiration sincère.
