Ce mémoire de recherche vise a voir si les entreprises dites indépendantes, qui possèdent un membre du conseil d'administration appartenant à une grosse compagnie pyramidale, ont une meilleure performance que celles qui sont complètement indépendantes, en dehors de toute structure pyramidale. Pour cela, nous avons construit une base de données canadienne, effectué des comparaisons croisées et, à l'aide du logiciel SPSS, nous avons utilisé et testé de différentes façons les indicateurs de performance (ROA, ROE, Q de Tobin) et de coûts d'agence (SGASALES) en effectuant des régressions et des t-tests de Student. Nous avons obtenu les résultats principaux suivants: le ROA et le ROE augmentent de manière significative et les coûts d'agence (SGASALES) sont excessivement moins élevés lorsque la variable pyr= 1 en comparaison avec pyr=0, c'est-à-dire quand les entreprises indépendantes font en fait partie d'une certaine manière des structures pyramidales en comparaison avec les entreprises totalement indépendantes. Il va sans dire que les écarts trouvés sont assez importants.
