Abstract
La poésie de Denis Vanier est généralement perçue comme expression de la révolte, de la transgression, de la violence, de l’obscénité et de l’abjection, bref, de l’excès. Mais une figure de rebelle outrancier ne fait-elle pas écran à l’oeuvre ? Une lecture attentive des sept derniers recueils de Vanier permet de mieux entrevoir le sujet tel qu’il se produit en son dire par l’écrit. Ce sujet apparaît comme radicalement affecté, et excédé, par l’épreuve de l’insoutenable, de provenance pulsionnelle. Les figures formées par le travail de création poétique relèvent d’un imaginaire religieux donnant lieu à une expérience du sacré dans sa dimension noire ou maléfique : le sujet s’éprouve comme prédestiné à la damnation par un Dieu radicalement mauvais, « extrémiste », auquel il s’identifie comme victime sacrificielle consentant à une « illumination par déchéance ». On analysera ici deux de ces figures : celle du meurtrier et celle du traître ou du renégat.
