Abstract

L’auteure se propose d’examiner l’un des aspects les plus significatifs de l’univers de Claude Vivier, le sacré, en s’appuyant sur des éléments biographiques, ses écrits, son oeuvre en général, et plus spécifiquement l’opéra « rituel de mort » Kopernikus . Sont envisagés dans cet article deux aspects du sacré : le numineux et le merveilleux. Vie et oeuvre de Vivier, directement conditionnées l’une par l’autre dans l’imaginaire du compositeur, oscillent entre le numineux (moteur de la vie) et le merveilleux (moteur de l’oeuvre), entre deux représentations mentales, le sacrifice (du latin sacrare , « consacrer à une divinité ») et l’extase (du latin extasis , « être hors de soi ; égarement de l’esprit » : « ravissement »). Agni, le double du compositeur, personnage central et le seul nommément désigné dans l’opéra, évoque le numineux associé au concept de sacrifice. Alice, l’ombre d’Agni, symbole de l’imagination constamment sollicitée, représente le merveilleux associé au concept d’extase. Entre le numineux et le merveilleux, le sacrifice et l’extase, l’existence et l’oeuvre, s’installe un vide qu’il reviendra à la musique de combler.
