Abstract
Cet article met à l’épreuve l’hypothèse que le premier roman français de Beckett, Mercier et Camier, serait un roman philologique. Par cette catégorie générique récemment mise au point, Philippe Dufour entend les romans qui mettent le dialogue au coeur de leurs enjeux et développent, selon des modalités qui leur sont propres, une réflexion sur les fondements et la nature de la parole partagée. Il s’agit donc de mener une étude de poétique dialogale sur quelques fragments emblématiques pour montrer comment se déploie, dans Mercier et Camier, une véritable pensée de la parole partagée à même l’organisation de l’implicite conversationnel. On souligne les enjeux identitaires et épistémiques dont le roman leste le dialogue, et l’on suggère que cette façon de considérer la parole comme le lieu de l’identité et de la confrontation des savoirs sur le monde offre des ressemblances frappantes avec certaines réflexions de la philosophie, notamment française, de la seconde moitié du xxe siècle. Discours romanesque et scientifique semblent dès lors partager un même imaginaire dialogal. 1
