Her areas of specialization are colonial Latin American literature and postcolonial theory, with an emphasis on transatlantic and transpacific studies. She has recently published a book entitled Visión periférica: marginalidad y colonialidad en las crónicas de América Latina (siglos XVI-XVII y XX-XXI) (Vervuert, 2013) and The Utopian Impulse in Latin America (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011) with Alessandra Santos, as well as many articles and book chapters in refereed venues.
