Le principal objectif de cette recherche était de verifier comment les biais dans la perception des risques des agents économiques peuvent affecter leurs comportements de sécurité routière. Les trois principaux risques étudiés sont le risque d’être arrêté suite à une infraction au Code de la sécurité routière, celui de la sévérité des sanctions et celui des délais des sanctions. Nous avons procédé en deux étapes. Dans un premier temps, nous avons mesuré les biais de perception des conducteurs et des transporteurs au moyen d’un sondage, puis nous avons vérifié comment ces mesures pouvaient affecter leur comportement mesuré par les points d’inaptitude accumulés et les accidents. D’une façon plus précise, les deux étapes d’analyse ont été les suivantes : 1) pour chacun des biais étudié, des questions ont été posées aux camionneurs et aux transporteurs pour comparer leurs perceptions des risques à des données objectives; 2) dans un deuxième temps, les indices des biais de perception individuels ont été utilisés comme variables explicatives dans l’analyse des distributions des infractions et des accidents. Les résultats sont résumés dans la conclusion de l’article.
