On etudie le rapport entre le revenu familial et la participation aux etudes postsecondaires afin de determiner dans quelle mesure les etudes superieures sont devenues l'apanage des familles aisees au Canada. L'analyse de deux ensembles de donnees semble indiquer que les membres de familles jouissant d'un revenu superieur sont plus susceptibles de frequenter l'universite, mais il s'agit la d'une tendance qui dure depuis longtemps et l'ecart de participation entre les membres des familles ayant les revenus les plus hauts et les plus bas a en fait diminue. Le lien entre revenu familial et participation aux etudes postsecondaires s'est resserre du debut au milieu des annees 1990, mais pour se relacher par la suite. Cette tendance indique le fait que des changements de politiques ont releve le maximum des prets consentis aux etudiants et augmente les autres types d'aide, mais seulement apres que les frais de scolarite ont commence a evoluer a la hausse.
