Abstract
Après une brève présentation des données et de la méthodologie, l'auteur montre que les femmes rwandaises qui commencent leur activité de procréation tardivement se reproduisent plus rapidement et réalisent ainsi une récupération de leur fécondité perdue suite à l'ajournement de leur mariage. Ce comportement observé, lorsqu'on contrôle l'âge et la parité atteinte, se confirme par le rythme de procréation très accéléré qui caractérise les femmes modernes. Ainsi, le niveau d'instruction, la nature du lieu de résidence et surtout l'activité professionnelle d'une femme sont les facteurs qui différencient le rythme de procréation dans la société rwandaise. Sans créer des différences aussi marquées que celles engendrées par ces indicateurs de modernité, l'ethnie et le type d'union conjugale affectent l'intervalle intergénésique lorsqu'on considère les femmes rwandaises qui commencent celui-ci à la même parité.
