Abstract
Cet article decrit brievement la notion provisoire de l’auteur sur la «sheer theatre» et l’applique a une piece de Marie Clements sur le meurtre en serie de femmes autochtones, intitulee The Unnatural and Accidental Women. En montrant comment la piece se sert d’elements textuels non verbaux (mouvement, effets sonores, eclairages et projection d’images), Gilbert propose une serie de graphemes physiques et examine comment l’«ecriture» «immaterielle» peut servir a denaturaliser la reception. Un tel deraillement de la reaction prevue au genre conventionnel sert a traumatiser la reception, a etablir des liens entre les dechirures operees au tissu de la representation et les vies brisees des personnages desenchantes de la piece. Il incite egalement les spectateurs a «lire» le recit des personnages a travers le filtre de leur propre experience, de sorte a produire une reponse essentiellement theâtrale pouvant mener a une evolution sur le plan social.
