Abstract
Que deviennent, sur le marché du travail, les jeunes qui ont interrompu leurs études secondaires cinq ans après leur sortie de l’école ? Dans quelle mesure leur décision d’interrompre leurs études était-elle liée à leur façon de se définir par rapport au présent comme certaines études ont déjà tenté de le montrer ? Leur orientation par rapport au temps (présent ou futur) a-t-elle changé au cours de ces cinq années ? L’objectif de l’article est de présenter les résultats d’une recherche qualitative effectuée à partir d’entrevues semi-structurées sur l’insertion professionnelle et le rapport au temps de jeunes qui ont interrompu leurs études secondaires au Québec. Nous définirons tout d’abord nos perspectives théoriques sur l’insertion professionnelle et le rapport au temps. Puis, nous décrirons les quatre types de jeunes que nous avons construits du point de vue de leur insertion, leur rapport au temps au moment où ils ont quitté l’école et cinq ans après l’interruption de leurs études. Enfin nous vérifierons si ces quatre types de jeunes avaient une façon différente de se situer par rapport au temps.
