Abstract
Cet article porte sur la conception du roman exposée par Louis Aragon dans deux textes, la nouvelle Le Mentir-vrai (1964) et l’essai Je n’ai jamais appris à écrire ou les Incipit (1969). Il montre que Les Incipit, dans le prolongement du Mentir-vrai, déploie deux arguments contradictoires, définissant l’écriture romanesque à la fois comme invention et non-invention, écriture et lecture. La mémoire se révèle au coeur de cette contradiction, dans le rapport paradoxal au réel qu’elle met en jeu. Confondant imagination et remémoration, le processus de création romanesque est en fin de compte défini comme mobilisation de l’imaginaire, réagencement des fragments de la mémoire.
