Abstract
Un mauvais usage persiste dans l'emploi de mots fort répandus tels que slikke et schorre. L'auteur présente les chercheurs qui ont modifié l'interprétation de ces termes. La caractérisation de la slikke donnée par JACQUET (1949) et VERGER (1966) doit faire époque; elle correspond bien à un habitat côtier sur substrat meuble occupé par les phanérogames. Il est ensuite reconnu que le niveau des «pleines mers moyennes» (MHW) peut servir à démarquer la slikke et le schorre. Ce niveau bathymétrique s'avère d'ailleurs universel, du moins pour les milieux abrités où s'établit le marais salé. Dans un deuxième volet, l'auteur traite de la végétation et des sols de la slikke aux environs de l'Isle-Verte; il s'agit d'une slikke (hydrolittoral moyen) située le long du Saint-Laurent au début de la sous-zone polyhaline ß.
