Abstract
Abstract Risk communication is now seen as a reciprocal exchange of information between all interested and affected parties that serves to inform them about the risk issue. It is also generally acknowledged that successful risk management requires the incorporation of risk communication as an integral component of the risk process, from the critical stage of problem formulation through to the final selection of risk‐management options. However, while this knowledge is becoming more generally accepted, it is not being consistently employed in practice.
