À l’instar d’autres peuples autochtones dans le monde, les Atikamekw Nehirowisiwok sont particulièrement préoccupés par la perte de leurs savoirs et conscients des obstacles et des défis qu’implique leur transmission dans le contexte actuel. Face à ces préoccupations, et depuis au moins une vingtaine d’années, la Nation atikamekw a mis en oeuvre différentes initiatives afin de documenter et de valoriser les savoirs locaux, et de favoriser leur transmission. C’est dans cette mouvance que s’inscrit le projet Atikamekw Kinokewin qui a vu le jour en 2006, sur la base d’une collaboration entre experts autochtones et chercheurs universitaires. Le bilan présenté ici se situe à deux niveaux concomitants, soit une réflexion sur l’expérience de recherche participative en soi, et la présentation du déroulement, des activités et des résultats du projet Atikamekw Kinokewin. Dans l’optique d’une décolonisation de la recherche, l’article fait aussi état de certains des défis, notamment d’ordre éthique et méthodologique, inhérents à une telle démarche participative avec des communautés autochtones.
