Abstract
O objetivo deste estudo foi desvelar o significado que a morte pediátrica adquire no cotidiano de trabalho do enfermeiro. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, descritiva e exploratória, desenvolvido em uma Unidade de Terapia Intensiva Pediátrica de um Hospital Escola no interior do Rio Grande do Sul. Observou-se que, a morte é um evento freqüente, e considerado complexo por aqueles que estão envolvidos na assistência direta às crianças. O sentimento de impotência diante da morte provoca sofrimento no enfermeiro que lança mão da espiritualidade para o enfrentamento da situação. Conclui-se que, trabalhar com a morte na infância é uma situação árdua, uma vez que a formação do enfermeiro é voltada para salvar vidas e não para a familiarização com questões que envolvem a finitude humana, principalmente na infância. Vivenciar situação de morte na infância é uma tarefa difícil, para a qual o enfermeiro necessita estar preparado. DOI:https://doi.org/10.15253/2175-6783.2010000200007
