Abstract
Cet article examine comment la littérature française récupère le propos médical et hygiéniste (eugénisme, dégénérescence) au tournant des XIXe et XXe siècles pour le transformer en une véritable aventure de la dégénérescence autour de figures singulières. À partir de la novella « Les gestes » de Paul Bourget et du roman Tribulat Bonhomet de Villiers de L’Isle-Adam, il s’agit de montrer, sur le mode psychologique et tragique ou sur le mode burlesque, comment le discours sur l’hérédité et les réflexions biologiques permettent de projeter, sur le plan imaginaire, l’aventure du vivant.
