Cet article analyse le devenir des filières professionnelles établies par différentes réformes de l’enseignement supérieur algérien au cours des quarante dernières années. Se fondant sur « l’écart » entre formation et marché, ces réformes veulent réduire l’enseignement à sa seule finalité économique. Cependant, leur démarche est contrée par un ensemble de facteurs sociopolitiques qui convergent pour en limiter, voire en annihiler la portée. Tandis que le dispositif mis en place tente de soumettre l’enseignement à la logique de l’entreprise, les agents sociaux acquièrent des pratiques pédagogiques et mûrissent des aspirations socioprofessionnelles qui l’en éloignent. Alors que le dispositif installe l’enseignement professionnel dans une configuration ambiguë, à cheval entre deux systèmes de référence opposés, les agents sociaux adoptent des conduites qui amènent l’acte éducatif à se conformer aux formes de savoir socialement dominantes. Il en résulte au final une « dérive » vers l’enseignement académique qui exprime la difficulté, dans le contexte étudié, de soumettre l’acte éducatif à une stricte logique économique.
