Abstract
Procedemos hoje ao encerramento solene das comemoracoes dos 60 anos de vida da nossa instituicao, sensivelmente um ano depois de, num gesto simbolico, termos aberto oficialmente o programa das comemoracoes em Beja, na delegacao do ISSS, na ocasiao do encerramento do ano lectivo em que se completou o primeiro curso da licenciatura em Servico Social ai ministrado.Como assinalamos no programa das comemoracoes a celebracao da fundacao do Instituto assumia, no actual contexto de forte expansao da area das Ciencias Sociais e Humanas e de crescente exigencia colocada ao ensino superior em Portugal, uma relevância fundamental. A sua comemoracao deveria contribuir para a valorizacao do capital historico do Servico Social, aprofundamento dos lacos com a sociedade portuguesa, com as organizacoes profissionais e com as personalidades comas quais o Instituto manteve ou tem mantido relacao. Igualmente, as iniciativas a desenvolver deveriam constituir uma oportunidade de reflexao sobre os desafios que se colocam ao Instituto.
