Alors que la paranda garifuna semblait ineluctablement vouee a une disparition prochaine en Amerique centrale (du fait de la rarefaction de ses interpretes conjuguee a son impopularite aupres des jeunes), son entree recente dans les studios d’enregistrement locaux represente un processus inedit de patrimonialisation musicale – aujourd’hui relaye par le puissant engouement qu’elle suscite chez l’ensemble des musiciens et producteurs locaux. Au sein de la creation musicale locale, de nouvelles compositions – apparues dans le cadre de productions soigneusement adaptees aux attentes des auditeurs internationaux de world music – font appel a des influences inedites, aujourd’hui largement partagees par la majorite des acteurs de la scene musicale contemporaine.
