Abstract
Cet article porte sur les oeuvres poétiques de Michel Beaulieu, publiées aux Éditions Estérel entre 1965 et 1970. Le ton contestataire des premiers recueils y fait place à une expérimentation formelle à laquelle Beaulieu accorde une importante valeur transgressive. La notion de pays, si présente dans la poésie québécoise, se déplace, un peu à la manière de Saint-Denys Garneau et d’Anne Hébert, vers des territoires symboliques mettant en scène un certain nombre de figures métaphoriques, tel l’oiseau, le phare et le totem. Au centre de cet espace transfiguré par le tournoiement des signes, le poète reste pour Beaulieu une conscience vigilante sur les tensions du présent.
