Abstract
Technical avalanche protection is a topic of growing importance in many mountain regions worldwide. This chapter provides an overview of the state of status of development in the countries (regions) most affected by avalanche risks. It tabulates the result of an expert survey based on a questionnaire, which was carried out in the course of the publication of the German edition of this handbook. Avalanche expert from 11 countries have contributed to this survey. The chapter provides a comparative table, which provides a rough overview of the similarities and differences of technical avalanche protection in Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Norway, Iceland, Spain, Canada, USA and Japan.
