Abstract
Cette étude examine la part prise par les historiens canadiens dans la construction de l’identité québécoise au cours des cent cinquante dernières années, à travers leur perception de l’influence amérindienne sur la société en Nouvelle-France. Elle distingue trois phases successives : (1) les années « maigres » (1840-1880), qui s’interrogent peu sur l’influence des cultures autochtones; (2) les années de la « négation » (1880-1960) qui voient les historiens canadiens-français démentir vigoureusement tout métissage; (3) les années « fastes » (depuis 1960), au cours desquelles chercheurs francophones et anglophones notent une très forte influence amérindienne. L’étude s’interroge enfin sur les facteurs ayant pu intervenir dans cette évolution.
