Éloignés des centres francophones de l’Est du Canada et de leurs institutions théâtrales, les créateurs et créatrices de l’Ouest œuvrent dans l’extrême marge de la francophonie canadienne. Investissant cette marginalité qui leur est propre, les artistes des communautés francophones de l’Ouest donnent à voir des réalités souvent méconnues dans des œuvres dont la théâtralité reflète les contextes dont elles sont issues. Le questionnement identitaire généré par une hybridation culturelle imposée ou consentie— laquelle se manifeste autant dans le texte que dans sa performance—, l’ouverture à une diversité jugée nécessaire à la survie, l’engagement d’une communauté dans le développement de sa dramaturgie, la valorisation de la langue et de la culture métisses sont des aspects abordés dans les articles réunis ici qui mettent en lumière les préoccupations et les aspirations d’artistes œuvrant au sein des communautés francophones de l’Ouest canadien, ainsi que les moyens dramatiques qui façonnent leur œuvres.
