Abstract
Il y a un siècle, la naturalisation du lien entre les filles et la couture rend légitime leur orientation dans les CAP de cette spécialité. Ce faisant, elles accèdent à l’enseignement professionnel qui les maintenait à sa périphérie. Mais alors que les CAP sont construits théoriquement à partir de liens étroits avec l’emploi, des déterminants politiques, économiques ou sociaux apparaissent majeurs pour saisir la construction, l’évolution et le maintien d’une offre de formation initiale. Si ces diplômes pouvaient ouvrir les portes de la promotion sociale au début du xxe siècle, à partir des années soixante, un décalage croissant s’observe entre l’orientation des filles dans la couture et le déclin de l’emploi dans ce secteur. Dès lors, ces CAP vont être stigmatisés et disqualifiés.
