Cet article reprend un mémoire présenté à la Commission d'étude des questions afférentes à l'accession du Québec à la souveraineté où nous tentions de déconstruire certaines attentes irréalistes et certaines craintes alarmistes qui ont cours actuellement au sein de divers secteurs de la population québécoise quant aux conséquences d'une éventuelle souveraineté sur l'immigration et l'intégration. L'article comporte deux volets. Dans un premier temps, nous faisons un bref rappel de la réflexion universitaire actuelle sur les définitions et les modèles de nation et décrivons divers modèles de gestion de la pluralité. Dans un deuxième temps, nous nous interrogeons sur l'impact de l'accession à la souveraineté sur le développement du modèle pluraliste qui semble actuellement émerger au Québec. Pour ce faire, nous abordons trois dimensions de la question, soit la politique de sélection et la composition du mouvement migratoire à destination du Québec, la dynamique d'intégration linguistique des allophones ainsi que l'évolution des attitudes et comportements des Québécois d'origine française à l'égard des immigrants et des Québécois des communautés culturelles.
