Abstract
Le texte montre que l’espace constitue un élément central du système de soutien aux aînés en perte d’autonomie. Les municipalités québécoises sont donc de plus en plus encouragées par le gouvernement du Québec à tenir compte des aînés dans leurs interventions d’aménagement et leur gestion. Cette mobilisation accrue des municipalités est analysée sous l’angle de l’équité, notamment envers les plus pauvres, en raison de leur capacité financière différenciée. L’article examine aussi l’offre privée de vastes ensembles résidentiels avec un grand éventail de services, cette forme résidentielle étant productrice d’une ségrégation économique en raison des loyers réclamés. Enfin, certaines questions sont formulées concernant la reconfiguration du système québécois de soutien aux aînés à la lumière du rôle croissant dévolu aux municipalités et de la privatisation des environnements résidentiels.
