Dans le présent document, nous produisons une estimation de l'investissement en capital humain fondé sur le marché et du stock de ce capital au Canada au cours de la période s'étendant de 1970 à 2007 selon l'approche fondée sur le revenu de la vie entière. Nous comparons cette estimation à celle de l'investissement en capital physique et naturel et du stock de ce capital. En suivant la méthode élaborée par Jorgenson et Fraumeni, nous estimons le stock de capital humain sous forme du revenu de la vie entière prévu de tous les individus. Nous estimons l'investissement en capital humain comme étant des changements au stock de capital humain en raison de l'effet de l'éducation des enfants et de leurs études et de l'effet de l'immigration sur le capital humain, par suite de l'ajout de nouveaux membres à la population en âge de travailler. Les principales constatations sont les suivantes : 1. De 1970 à 2007, le volume du capital humain agrégé a augmenté au taux annuel de 1, 7 % au Canada et la plupart de cette croissance était due à l'accroissement du nombre d'individus faisant partie de la population en âge de travailler. La hausse des niveaux d'études de la population canadienne est également un facteur qui a contribué de manière significative à la croissance du capital humain. 2. Les effets de composition causés par le vieillissement de la population canadienne (mouvement vers une population plus vieille en moyenne) ont réduit la croissance du capital humain de 0, 6 % par année pendant la période de 1980 à 2007, tandis que la hausse des niveaux d'études l'a accélérée de 0, 7 % par année pendant la même période. 3.
