Los autores evaluan la politica exterior canadiense y su relacion con el sistema interamericano a lo largo del siglo xx. El ingreso de Canada en la oea en 1990 marco un punto de inflexion en su politica hacia America. Desde entonces, la politica hemisferica canadiense ha mostrado liderazgo en la promocion de la democracia (dentro de los foros de la oea) y el libre comercio (en las negociaciones del alca). En la oea, este activismo ha renovado la dinamica interamericana al inyectar propuestas a favor de la democracia y la transparencia dentro no solo de los paises miembros sino tambien de la Organizacion.
