Abstract
Comme dans d’autres régions du monde, la croissance démographique et l’aménagement côtier sur le littoral acadien au Nouveau-Brunswick contribuent à une plus grande vulnérabilité et à la détérioration des espaces côtiers et environnements littoraux. L’élévation du niveau marin et les effets des changements climatiques rendent les côtes du Nouveau-Brunswick extrêmement sensibles et entrainent des impacts de plus en plus importants. Ainsi, l’adaptation aux changements climatiques constitue un enjeu de taille pour la province.Nous décrivons ici les résultats d’une étude comparative sur les expériences et les stratégies d’adaptation de deux communautés côtières, les communautés de Cocagne - Grande Digue et de Beaubassin-Est - Cap Pelé. Les deux territoires ont en commun d’avoir des littoraux convoités par le tourisme et le secteur immobilier. Des entretiens semi-dirigés et des groupes de discussion (focus groups) ont permis d’obtenir des informations sur les thématiques suivantes : l’expérience des modifications environnementales, les mesures d’adaptation initiées individuellement ou collectivement, les réactions et les besoins futurs. Les résultats de l’étude mettent en évidence l’enchâssement des aspects économiques et sociétaux dans les enjeux environnementaux et le rôle des représentations et des acteurs qui déterminent le niveau de mobilisation. Enfin, le projet souligne l’importance d’une coordination entre les différentes échelles de gouvernance.
