Abstract
O presente artigo constitui-se como uma breve apresentacao do tema de dissertacao de Mestrado em Servico Social.Pretendemos analisar as Desigualdades de Genero no Emprego, no final do seculo XX. Apos mais de duzentos anos de vivencia dos principios orientadores da modernidade, baseados na construcao racional da liberdade, igualdade e solidariedade para todos os homens e mulheres.A fundamentacao teorica e alicercante, por um lado, das contradicoes subjacentes a modernidade, por outro lado, das tentativas de ultrapassar a milenar desigualdade social da mulher, atraves de medidas politicas desencadeadas pelos Estados, entre as quais se salienta o Programa NOW.No caso portugues, a discriminacao positiva para a promocao de igualdade de oportunidades de genero no emprego e uma possibilidade ainda muito incipiente, contudo, ela e tambem reveladora de outras potencialidades de desenvolvimento social da mulher que merecem especial realce como teremos oportunidade de salientar.
