Abstract
Le gouvernement québécois, dans le courant des années 1970, a entamé la mise en valeur énergétique des fleuves du Nord du Québec qui s'écoulent vers la baie d'Hudson et la baie James. De très puissants barrages ont été édifiés sur le cours du fleuve La Grande, moyennant le règlement des litiges territoriaux avec les autochtones (Cris et Inuit). Ces barrages ont cependant impliqué la création d'immenses réservoirs qui ont ennoyé des surfaces importantes et nécessité le détournement de fleuves de la région. Objet de la contestation des Amérindiens et d’une partie de l’opinion publique, les grands projets de barrage disparaissent au début des années 1990. Pourtant, le début du XXIe s. a vu l’avènement de nouveaux projets. Comment expliquer ce retour des grands projets hydroélectriques ?
