Cet article veut mieux faire connaître Jeanne Lapointe (1915-2006), première professeure de littérature à l’Université Laval (1940-1987), intellectuelle, artisane de la Révolution tranquille et féministe québécoise de premier plan. Jeanne Lapointe est surtout connue pour son exceptionnelle participation à deux commissions royales d’enquête décisives : la commission Parent (1961-1966) sur l’enseignement dans la province de Québec et la commission Bird (1967-1970) sur la situation de la femme au Canada. Le premier prix Elsie-Gregory-MacGill a d’ailleurs été décerné à Jeanne Lapointe, en 1986, pour son engagement et ses activités féministes et multidisciplinaires. Les auteures insistent surtout, dans leur article, sur des aspects méconnus de la carrière de Jeanne Lapointe, révélés, après son décès, grâce à la création du fonds Jeanne-Lapointe (aux archives de l’Université Laval) et aux recherches effectuées par Claudia Raby pour son mémoire de maîtrise (2007). La collaboration de Jeanne Lapointe à la revue Cité libre, à la critique et à la vie littéraires québécoises, l’audace et la clairvoyance, à l’égard de l’institution universitaire, de son mémoire « Humanisme et humanités » présenté en mai 1958, permettent de mieux mesurer son apport à la société québécoise et canadienne, à la modernité littéraire et à la pensée postmoderne. Sa passion pour la littérature et le monde de l’éducation, son constant souci du dialogue, son fervent féminisme et son sens de l’éthique s’en trouvent enrichis.
