Abstract
Cet article se propose de dégager certaines tensions dans l’approche de l’espace chez Pierre Nepveu romancier, poète et essayiste. Ces tensions (entre la représentation des villes, des paysages réels et imaginaires, mais aussi entre certains lieux-dits de la modernité critique) répondent le plus souvent chez Nepveu à une dynamique imaginaire que l’on pourrait appeler, après Bakhtine, « exotopique » — là ou l’ici ne se laisse appréhender que par l’ailleurs, par un regard extérieur à un lieu déjà connu et habité. La question de l’habitation se démarque tant dans la poésie que dans la prose (romans et essais) de Nepveu : comment habiter le monde dans son désordre irréductible ? Comment écrire l’espace, en explorer les intérieurs, ses paysages spirituels, à une époque ou tout en en transit, en transition, ou les lieux s’enchevêtrent à des non-lieux ? Ce questionnement servira à explorer certains lieux habités et déshabités par Nepveu l’écrivain, en particulier les villes (Montréal, Vancouver, Paris) et un parcours plus vaste : du Québec aux États-Unis, du Mexique au Brésil.
