Le sous-titre de ce nouveau livre d'Annie Duprat aurait pu être celui qu'elle a choisi de donner à son chapitre VI : « Images et récits : regards croisés ».En effet, elle nous propose ici un parcours qui nous conduit sans cesse de l'un à l'autre des deux rois, en croisant avec bonheur la production pamphlétaire et les estampes.Une soixantaine d'illustrations vient avec pertinence appuyer son propos, et quelques "morceaux choisis" de la prose pamphlétaire figurent en annexe.On pourra notamment y lire le texte de la fameuse description de la ménagerie royale d'animaux vivants (1793), dans laquelle le « Royal Veto », qui « n'a point de queue » et a acquis quelque célébrité sous « le sobriquet de Louis XVI », côtoie « le Royal Veto femelle », « guenon couronnée » qui se plaît aux « parties des quatre coins, où le Royal Veto [est] toujours le pot de chambre », ou encore « Royal Veto d'Artois » (qui ne laisse pas indifférente « la chaude Antoinette »), « Royal Veto Provence », « le Delphinus », etc.
