Abstract
Dans cet article, nous verrons comment le vieillissement de la population active se différencie de celui de la population totale. Cela peut sembler aller de soi, puisque la population active exclut les plus jeunes et les plus âgés. Mais comme la population active ne comprend que les deux-tiers de la population considérée en âge de travailler, il est nécessaire 66 SOCIOLOGIE ET SOCIÉTÉS, VOL. XXVII, 2 d'examiner de plus près les mécanismes qui structurent cette exclusion du marché du travail. Ces mécanismes relèvent à la fois des rapports sociaux à l'échelle de toute la société et de ceux qui structurent plus spécifiquement le monde du travail et de l'emploi. Cette analyse permettra d'affirmer que le vieillissement de la main-d'œuvre active est un enjeu majeur pour les décennies à venir et qu'il est nécessaire de prendre acte de son insertion dans les rapports sociaux afin de déplacer le débat du terrain démographique à celui des enjeux sociaux concernant les critères de répartition des ressources entre les différents groupes sociaux.
