Abstract
La configuration des droits et des devoirs de l'institution de l'assistance sociale est fortement imprégnée d'une logique de genre. À partir de l'analyse évolutionnaire des obligations de travail imposées aux mères pauvres recevant des transferts assistanciels, nous procédons à une lecture critique d'une stratégie féministe qui vise la reconnaissance du travail des femmes dans la famille par la consolidation de l'assistance sociale. Avec la transformation de l'institution de l'emploi des femmes, les risques d'une telle stratégie sont suffisamment importants pour forcer les féministes à engager une réflexion fondamentale au sujet des politiques de sécurité sociale à promouvoir pour améliorer véritablement le statut économique des femmes.
