Abstract
Le questionnement sur la position des pères dans les quartiers d'habitat social, en France, émerge aujourd'hui dans un contexte marqué par un essoufflement des politiques publiques, et se décline sur le registre de l'autorité, en lien avec les problêmes de sécurité. Ce sont les conditions sociales de cette autorité et de son exercice, notamment en situation migratoire, qui sont interrogées dans cet article. La situation migratoire et l'évolution du rôle paternel qu'elle oblige se comprennent d'autant mieux que l'on considère la famille immigrée en relation avec la famille dans le pays d'origine. Sous cet angle, les politiques publiques peuvent se lire comme autant d'interventions qui participent indirectement à l'affaiblissement de la position du père avant d'offrir des possibilités de repositionnement. Celles-ci se façonnent à partir de nouveaux rapports et de nouvelles alliances entre les membres de la famille dans un cadre urbain déficitaire, où les politiques actuelles entraînent paradoxalement une privatisation de l'espace public et le risque d'un retrait du « politique ».
