Abstract
Ce texte présente et évalue les principaux développements théoriques et empiriques associés à l’approche d’équilibre général stochastique du cycle économique. On discute des fondements de l’approche partant de l’hypothèse du taux naturel de Friedman-Phelps, de la substitution intertemporelle et de la dispersion spatiale des marchés. Les questions de la formation des anticipations et du rôle de la politique monétaire sont également abordées. Un aspect intéressant de l’exposé repose sur la spécification d’un modèle de référence comprenant la plupart des éléments essentiels pour l’obtention d’un modèle d’équilibre du cycle qui soit plausible. Des modèles connus sont ensuite dérivés en imposant des restrictions sur certains paramètres du modèle de référence. L’analyse de ces modèles permet l’identification de propositions qui ont été l’objet d’intensifs efforts d’évaluation. Les difficultés empiriques de l’approche sont analysées.
